Donald Trump has said he will end the conflict in Ukraine on day one of his presidency. Whether this promise is fulfilled or the war drags on, many Ukrainian employees will be seeking certainty over their immigration status in the UK.
From 4 February 2025, those on UK’s Ukraine Schemes will be able to extend their UK visas for a further 18 months.
This month changes to the UK’s Immigration Rules also confirmed that Britain’s Ukraine Schemes set up after Russia’s 2022 invasion of the Ukraine are temporary and will not count towards long residence routes to settlement.
However there are other UK visas that those on the schemes can switch to. For employers who may wish to help Ukrainians on the humanitarian schemes switch to immigration routes that may lead to long-term settlement, Vanessa Ganguin Immigration Law’s Alexander Finch has written an article in Personnel Today detailing the main options they have.
These include:
Sponsorship on a Skilled Worker visa and other sponsored work visas
